Shadow Box Piggy Bank

Happy New Year!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday season!  Thank you for meeting me here to read about what’s going on in my little world.  Like many others, one of my New Year’s resolution is to save more money and be more aware of my budget.  First I’ll do it the responsible way by increasing my monthly retirement deductions and adjusting my automatic transfer to send more money into my savings account.  But what about the fun and instantly gratifying way to save?  I wanted something tangible to remind myself that I’m getting closer to my goal.  With my handy dandy husband’s help, we made a shadow box piggy bank.  We’re saving to build a play house hide-a-way for the kids (playhouse inspiration from thehandmadehome.net).

I picked up a shadow box from Ikea, had my husband drill a slit on top of the frame and inserted a picture of our goal.  The beauty of this piggy bank is that I can see how quickly the money is adding up and once we have enough money to build the hide-a-way fort, I can swap out the picture with the next goal we’re saving up for! ImageImageImageImage

Easy peasy gift for anyone at any age for any occasion!  Just don’t forget to slip in some green to get them started! Image
